Energy saving technologies

In order to ensure a sustainable Environment, ECODA has involved the community as being part of the Environment. Community mobilization is a process of organizing concerned citizens for collective action towards a common purpose with the aim of facilitating change. Therefore the community is sensitized about the negative impacts affecting the Environment and measures are discussed together.

However, one of the measures has been the promotion of the improved energy saving stoves, tree planting and mitigation of climate change. ECODA has carried out stove training in Bugiri district and Hoima district with the support from GOAL UGANDA.

Increased Rural water suppy

and sanitation facilities The absence of safe water sources in Uganda is still a key problem, and households identify water supply as a priority. Between 2004 and 2008; the median collection time for water was 30 minutes and the time saved by the children from fetching water from long distances permits them to attend to school.

For some households, the distances and time are much longer; a study in Eastern Uganda found that households were spending 660 hours a year on water collection. Average water consumption ranges from 12 to 14 litres/person/day in rural areas, compared to a national target of 20 litres/person/day.
