Environmental conservation

In order to ensure a sustainable Environment, ECODA has involved the community as being part of the Environment. Community mobilization is a process of organizing concerned citizens for collective action towards a common purpose with the aim of facilitating change. Therefore the community is sensitized about the negative impacts affecting the Environment and measures are discussed together.

However, one of the measures has been the promotion of the improved energy saving stoves, tree planting and mitigation of climate change. ECODA has carried out stove training in Bugiri district and Hoima district with the support from GOAL UGANDA. ECODA was also supported by NAADS chairman in Namayumba Sub county, Wakiso district and they spread stoves to 43 homesteads. In July 2010, Agency for Accelerated Regional Development (AFARD) also supported ECODA to train 216 beneficiaries from Nebbi, Zombo, Arua, Yumbe and Moyo districts in stove construction.
ECODA has also parterned with GIZ-Energy programme in post stove dissemination which involved repair of cracks, replacement of broken stoves and construction of new ones since January 2011. About 70% of the households in the 15 target districts have access to improved energy saving stoves and 22 social institutions and 75 households have acquired solar energy for lighting. 30 households have also acquired Biogas for cooking and lighting which is a sustainable way of saving natural resources.
